Skin Treatments for Rosacea

By Alistair Nole

Acne rosacea is a chronic and at times progressive facial disorder that afflicts 45 million people all over the world. Permanent redness, swelling, exceptionally sensitive skin, and bloodshot eyes are common complaints of those who suffer from this condition. This skin condition was known to only affect people of north-western European descent, and has been nicknamed the curse of the Celts by some Irish folks.

Rosacea can do similar things as melasma, and create darker patches on the face. The difference is that it is only redder. It's natural for people's faces to turn red from time to time. When a person's adrenaline rises, it can cause redness. It can also be caused by dilation of the arteries when you eat something really spicy. Redness from rosacea is much more severe than these natural reasons.

Rosacea is not caused by infections such as bacteria, studies have shown and doctors agree. Some people have a higher tendency to blush than others, due to genetic reasons. Alcohol can also be a factor in facial redness, and rosacea is exacerbated by it's consumption. Rosacea can appear in people at different ages, and it seems to be around 30 years old when dermatologists diagnose this disorder commonly.

Rosacea has many outward signs, including bumps and acne, red cheeks, redness and swelling near the nose, and unsightly obvious blood vessels on the face.

Laser treatments are often used to treat many types of skin conditions, including rosacea. Dermatologists usually prescribe a topical rosacea treatment to begin with. Too much redness is sometimes treated with tetracycline or minocin antibiotics that are included in some topical creams. This kind of treatment method can be helpful for mild and more extreme rosacea afflicted patients. Dermatologists will prescribe more heavy duty oral antibiotics when the disorder is very highly advanced.

Makeup is over-used by people who have rosacea in order to attempt to hide the condition from others. Remember that if you do this, you may only worsen the problem. Use makeup sparingly, and only when absolutely necessary like when you need to attend an important social gathering. Otherwise, stay away from it. Using a mild facial cleaner is a good idea when someone has symptoms from rosacea. Rosacea is not as likely to get worse if the face is kept as clean as possible. Using a cleanser that is sourced from natural material makes the most sense, as using stronger chemicals on your face is not a good idea. This way, your skin won't be subjected to harmful irritants that will only further damage it.

The symptoms from rosacea can happen to anyone, no matter their background and many find their quality of life is not as good as it was before. Patients can have specific treatments that are for their exact type of rosacea affliction designed for them by their dermatologist. In order to lessen the effects of rosacea, using a natural skin product is a wise idea. Talking to the experts is the most sensible idea, since you can benefit from their experience. A reputable and reliable skin doctor can provide you with the most effective treatment for melasma, rosacea, and other skin disorders to make you happier and more confident.
