Is Intermittent Fasting Safe?

Fasting for weight loss is not a new concept.

Intermittent fasting is a technique that has been getting recognition for its positive weight loss benefits.

With this method you restrict your calorie intake on the days you are fasting and eat regularly on the days you are not. This fast can be structured in a variety of ways. One of the more common structures is eating normal calorie amounts for 5 days and restricting calories for 2 days.

This technique is believed to be effective for the following reasons.

One reason fasting for weight loss works is because it cuts down on the amount of calories you are consuming since you are taking in very little if any calories during fasting periods.

Fasting not only cuts calories but it also forces the body to start burning off the fat it has stored.

Fasting works well because it does not require a major shift in the way you eat. Instead, you are allowed to eat the things you want except on the days you fast and typically drink water, teas and other low calorie drinks.

Fasting helps with weight loss because of the calorie restriction that occurs on the days you are not eating.

Better Health

Intermittent fasting has a number of other health benefits which include, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, regulating blood sugar and reducing the risk of alzheimer's disease.

Fasting has been shown to boost metabolism and increase energy.

For even better weight loss results start an exercise program in conjunction with your fast.

Engaging in an exercise program will speed up your weight loss and improve your health.

Eating a diet which includes plenty of fruits and vegetables will provide your body with the fuel it needs to stay energized.

It is also important that you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and remove waste from your system.

Fasting for weight loss can be an effective strategy for losing weight. If you are thinking about using fasting as a way to lose weight, you should check with your physician before beginning to make sure your current health can support fasting as a way of life.
