Botox Trends

By Ariel Mernal

The public is well aware that having botox treatments is a simple and easy solution to make the skin appear younger. Its cosmetic applications have advanced significantly over the last few years, with more and more people now looking to undergo botox injections with the hope of getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox may have been considered to be a procedure that would come and go, however the skeptics now see that this is not true, it's going to be around for a while.

You may have read about it in the news or even seen it on television - more and more celebrities are now using botox injections to maintain their young looks and skin. A lot of people are wondering why this has become so increasingly mainstream in recent years.

Well, the answer is simple really. Botox is a cheap and effective solution to ageing skin. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. More and more people have realized this now, thanks to all the publicity botox treatments receive through celebrity use.

Do Men get Botox?

It's a mistake for people to think that the only people out there getting botox treatments are women. The facts show something else, entirely. Granted that majority of the people who undergo botox injections are women, these days' even men are undergoing these procedures. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

The trends are always evolving

The fact is, botox usage is going up. By some reports, the overall increase in botox treatments between 2010 and 2011 rose 5%, up to 5.7 million patients from 5.4 million the year before. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. This is not a shock to anyone. In the past, the general attitude toward botox treatments were negative, but as time goes on, it's no longer just the super wealthy that can afford them, and regular people are much more accepting of the procedure. This procedure has become quite mainstream and popular.

There is more than this though. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy for adults and children, and blepharospasm are included in the other treatments that botox can be helpful for. Results have been promising and outcomes have been excellent. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

There is no doubt that the future is bright for botox. Research is ongoing into looking at newer applications, and the results so far are promising.
