Men Are Getting It!

By Clea Spahn

Cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures in the country are still mostly sought after by women, but nowadays there are more and more men that are choosing to have these procedures done. Non-surgical techniques of improving one's appearance are becoming more widely accepted, and men have become more open about having them.

Most men want a fast recovery time, and for the procedure to be unnoticed by their friends, family and coworkers, they want the process to fit into their life with ease. Men are even becoming a little more self-conscious about their skin condition and this may be a combination of a high incidence of skin cancer as well as their wish to simply look better. The elasticity of skin is negatively affected by UV light from the sun, and this is one of the reasons that those who look more aged are those who have had more sun exposure.

Modern skin care can both protect the skin and improve a lot of the damage that has been done by the sun. It's a simple thing to do after the daily shave with perhaps a bit of a top up at night before retiring.

For men, one of the more popular types of procedures is rhinoplasty. This may be due to the self-consciousness about a big nose, of an odd shape or a crooked nose. A general anaesthetic is used in a typical day patient rhinoplasty procedure, and it's about a week until the patient is ready to work and for a couple weeks, there could be some bruising.

The scars from a procedure like blepharoplasty and neck or face lifts are negligible, so men are also attracted to these procedures. However most men don't want that over-done look. Mostly, men would prefer to have some wrinkles than have a major surgical procedure that would be obvious to their acquaintences.

Fat is targeted in men using exercise and proper diet regimes, but even so, there are still some areas that have fat remaining. An over abundance of fat appears on the abdomen or flank of men, and these are the main areas of concern. Shaping of these regions with liposuction can be done as a day patient and return to work the next day is usually possible which can suit the busy male lifestyle.

Accompanying this expanding interest in the muscular athletic male body is a desire for hair removal. Using the latest advances in laser technology, hair removal has become more and more effective in recent years. Preceding the series of procedures to target the troublesome areas of the body, it is recommended that tanning is not done.

Men have these procedures done because of their own concerns, and they are not the same as what motivates women. There is a competitive pressure in the marketplace for men, real or imagined. In order to turn back the clock and look youthful once again, finding a cosmetic surgeon who has treated men and has that experience is wise.
